Larian Studios Announce a Latest Divinity, Calling it Their Biggest RPG Ever

The anticipation about The Game Awards reached a fever pitch, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a strange statue. The question has been revealed. Larian Studios is creating a brand-new Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer that included intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the literal descent into chaos.

A Different Direction

For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio clarified that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.

Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This phrasing suggests that the team could be crafting a more action-oriented experience instead of another turn-based title. At this moment, it remains theory, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it kicked off the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, player agency, and complex character building—qualities that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities you can achieve with a specific type of character with a personal story.

The series is also famously open-ended, enabling players to find creative solutions both in story and combat. Virtually all objectives can be completed in multiple ways, frequently in lateral fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by moving environmental hazards in a unorthodox way.

The Journey Continues

It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games in history. Now, fans can anticipate a new entry in this groundbreaking franchise.
