The star has donated the full amount of his £25k award winnings to the MVT, which functions to preserve the United Kingdom's grassroots music venues.

The star was awarded the prize on October 16 as his latest record the album was named the top album of the last 12 months.

He has decided to give the cash to the trust, in recognition of the vital role local spots fulfilled in his beginning days.

"I personally would not have achieved what I am doing today if it wasn't for all the performances I played around the area, and elsewhere, when I was beginning," remarked Fender. "These venues are iconic, but they are struggling."

Since the start of 2023, over 150 of these spaces have shut down – roughly 16 percent of the total UK scene.

Over the past year, well-known musicians such as the band Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the MVT in its initiatives to support the industry, by applying a minor surcharge to their ticket prices, which benefits local stages.

Fender also took part, generating more than £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to support numerous small stages across Britain.

The money supported spaces that were facing possible closure due to difficulties stemming from floods, blazes and bereavements, as well as permit problems, conflicts and noise complaints.

Some locations obtained funding support in upgrading infrastructure and sound and lighting systems that helped performers and concertgoers.

"The concept that revenue from concerts in big venues backs the independent spots, where it begins for artists like me, is just sensible," Sam Fender has stated.

He is among several artists to give his honor winnings to worthy causes.

When Pulp won the award in 1996 for their album the album, lead singer the singer declared that the group would give their cash to the charity the charity.

That year, musician she split her bounty among a few good causes, like the children's charity and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"And I gave a thousand pounds to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics program, because I did gymnastics when I was growing up and they required new equipment," Ms Dynamite explained to outlets.

Two years ago, the band contributed their prize money to the local youth club that nurtured their act, as well as other grassroots music organisations.

Also the 1994 recipients M People donated their winnings to a charity for MS after a friend was found to have the illness.

"Winning was ample," stated singer Small. "The prize was the bonus but we didn't require the cherry, because we had the cake. So our victory affected the lives of others."

Recently, the MVT revealed it had saved a couple of local spots in that region, by transferring them to public stewardship.

One venue in that area and The Croft in the city were acquired under the Own Our Venues scheme, which is funded by Arts Council England and supporters who acquire "ownership units" in the buildings.
